Generational Freedom

"Generational Freedom" investigates how Generation X(Baby Boomers), Generation Y(Millennials), and Generation Z view and experience freedom in connection to technology, societal change, and individual liberty within the Indian community. It explores how historical, political, and cultural elements influence how each generation feels freedom. By drawing attention to these changing viewpoints, Generational Freedom hopes to provoke discussion, develop understanding, and promote awareness of how aspects of freedom have changed and are still changing across generations in modern society.​

Medium 1: Freedom Through Ages - Two-Sided Dialogue Book

This book has been designed for educational and informational purposes, and the content has been structured around dialogues. This book focuses on conversations between characters within the Indian Community to help readers learn and understand conversational patterns on freedom. This book has two sides, a personal side is entirely based on personal interviews within the PATEL FAMILY, and the other side focuses on general people, such as high school/college students, neighbours, and more within the Indian Community.​

Medium 2: Voices of Freedom - Participatory Wall Puzzle, Stickers, Markers​

"Voices of Freedom" is a participatory wall piece which what freedom means to people from different generations, generations X, Y, and Z. The portrait of three people from the PATEL FAMILY's three generations, X, Y, and Z. The portrait has been converted into puzzle pieces with three different colors for each generation. Participants pick the color-coded card based on the generation they are from, and write a one-word answer based on the prompt given. Put it on the wall by matching the number on the back of the card and the number on the wall as well. At the end, it forms an entire portrait. This piece is meant to show what freedom means for people from different generations.

Medium 3: Togetherness - Dinner Table Installation, Vinyl Graphics, Printed Fabric​

In this busy world, it is hard to sit all family together and spend time, so PATEL FAMILY has a value that is to follow every day and which is to have dinner with all the family members as a joint family and talk about the day, life, and more. Based on that, each plate displays the content gathered from the interviews within the PATEL FAMILY. The first plate has the data on the amount of freedom for each generation experienced, the second plate with the most commonly spoken words by PATEL FAMILY in Hindi/Gujarati language, third plate has the most commonly spoken words by PATEL FAMILY members in English language. The fourth plate has a quote that represents all three generations and how they are still connected. Also, each plate has a printed fabric next to it as a legend.​
